Friends in Farming

 September 22nd/2020

Living in Grand Forks, soil and farming is an essential part of the economy. Soil erosion is when the soil loosens or is washed away from different land masses. Due to human activities such as deforestation and agriculture.

Although soil erosion can be a slow process, it still can have very harmful effects on the ecosystem. In North Dakota, farming is one of the most prominent industries. Agriculture is one of the biggest problems that can cause soil erosion. The constant disturbing of the ground with plowing and pulling of trees cause the land to be thin during the winter seasons. Along with the tractors and the plows creating tracks and grooves in the land which will create natural pathways for water.

The goal of my charity "Friends in Farming" is to find land in the United States with a stronger emphasis on North Dakota that is no longer being used to farm, and restore the land that has evidence of soil erosion. Whether that is restoring some of the soil for natural growth, or trying to naturally restore the land to grow crops without the machinery ruining the land. The funds will be donated from companies around the area that are hoping to restore the land. We also hope to get the word out on soil erosion as many people don't quite know the effects of it. This charity has been around since 2003 when soil erosion started to become a large problem, and we hope to continue to be around for many more years to help the environment.
